Austin City Limits was a week ago, and every day I wish I was back! It was so. much. fun!
This is us on Friday literally straight from the airport. It was very overcast that day, which was actually really nice because otherwise it would have been so hot!
This is James Blake. He was one of the first shows we saw, and we were really looking forward to seeing him. He did not disappoint! We waited for a full hour to be at the very front- we were literally on the rails. I was most impressed by his music, especially in "I Never Learnt to Share" (my favorite song!). He sings one line in four parts/ tones and loops them on each other. I thought it was four different people (stupid, I know), so I was surprised/ excited to see the way he makes his music. I really love the way he mixes technology with music.

Our schedule for the weekend included waking up for breakfast, eating lunch about two hours later, and then going to the park and not eating for about 10 hours. They had local Austin food at the park, but it was so expensive, so we didn't want to pay for it. We did pay for Sweet Leaf Tea though for just enough calories to get us through the day. It's the best tea I've ever had, and that's saying a lot living in Alabama! I loved it so much I took two pictures of them. Notice they are all different flavors... If anyone would like to send me the gift of tea, you can do so
right here.

Unfortunately, most of the pictures from Kanye Friday night are blurry. His show was definitely the most theatrical. There were about twenty ballerinas on stage with him throughout the performance, and his show was divided into three acts, all of which consisted of songs with similar themes- a lot like a play.

TV on the Radio was absolutely the most fun show of the weekend. They were another band we were really looking forward to, and we sang, danced, and jumped around like fools. And it was awesome. They were the last show before the headliner (Stevie Wonder) on Saturday night, so about halfway through the show people started leaving to head to the other stage, so we were able to get really close.

My biggest regret of the weekend: Not taking video of me and Joe dancing like fools to Skrillex. That would have been YouTube worthy. I don't understand how people can listen to that for an hour and be seriously in to it. The only way we could bear it was to entertain ourselves by flailing about mimicking the rhythm of the "music". Think an aggressive Bernie...
Here are some of the funny/ disturbing things we saw...
Every girl in Texas wears mom-jorts. I do not and will not understand that fashion choice.
I was pleasantly surprised by The Walkmen. I hadn't listened to them much before ACL, but their show was very, very good. I loved that they were all dressed so sharply! They played a couple songs they said they had just written which was really cool. I'll be keeping a lookout for their new album.

Biggest letdown of the weekend: Iron and Wine
I tried to find a video on YouTube to post to demonstrate how bad this show was, and the only videos I could find pertaining to it were videos of Christian Bale walking around while they were playing in the background. I think that says enough.
Saturday morning we went to Kerbey Lane Cafe for breakfast with Joe's sister and her husband. We were so hungry, and the food was so delicious I completely forgot to take a picture of my food. Luckily Joe was only half done with his, so here is the french toast.
Yum!!
Notice we're rockin' our ACL t-shirts. I'm so glad we got to spend time with the Schmidt's!
I. Love. Fleet Foxes. Their music is so beautiful to me; it's in the same playing field as Bon Iver (not at ACL, but still I highly recommend you check them out). Their music is very folksy with lots of harmony and a rustic sound which I've been very drawn to recently.

Arcade Fire. Last show of the weekend. They were incredible performers, and you can tell they really love what they do. This band is so talented, which you can't fully appreciate just listening to their album. Every band member plays multiple instruments and sings, and they switch around depending on the song, which is astounding to me as someone who has absolutely no musical ability whatsoever. I liked their album, Suburbs, before ACL, but since being back in Auburn, I haven't been able to stop listening to it! Their show just made me love their music so much more.

We left Austin Monday morning at 5:40am. Oh yeah. Overall, we saw 22 bands and it is definitely one of the most fun things I've ever done, and I'm so glad that Joe and I were able to do this together.
Can't wait for next year!! I'll have to buy my own CamelBak ;)
